Revolutionary New Imaging Technique Introduced

By making surrounding tissues almost invisible to the eye, scientists have come up with a novel method of viewing organs in the body.

A materially self-explanatory mechanism – a swab application of edible pigment – proved reversible when tested with a living subject model and could find applications in diagnostics encompassing finding trauma such as concussive forces to the serosa and interactions within the gut to even malignant contagions.

Stanford University researchers published the research ″Achieving optical transparency in live animals with absorbing molecules″ in the September 6, 2024 issue of Science.

″Geographically, further usage of this technology may improve the visibility of the veins enabling the extraction of blood, simplify the process of laser-assisted tattoo clearance, and/or improve the early treatment of cancers″, Stanford University, Guosong Hong, Assistant Professor at Materials Science and Engineering Division, NSF CAREER awardee who co-led this work. Lets consider these possibilities: cancer and pre-cancerous cells are eliminated through a laser. Actually, the laser can only be used very close to the surface of the skin. This is a situation where this technique may be able to enhance

Afternoon news

Millions of residents in northern Nigeria have been placed under 24-hour curfews amid nationwide protests against the high cost of living.

Governments in the states of Kano, Jigawa, Yobe and Katsina have ordered locals not to leave their homes - and therefore not attend protests - on Friday.

The authorities say the curfew is necessary because "hoodlums" have hijacked the protests in order to loot and vandalise properties.

There is a heavy security presence around the country with nine more "days of rage" scheduled by the movement's organisers.

Did you know phone

This Galaxy Z Flip 6 rival may have everything it needs to challenge Samsung in the US

  • It was discovered that the Xiaomi Mix Flip supports all 5G bands used by US carriers.
  • It’s unknown if Xiaomi plans to offer the clamshell foldable in the US, but this would open up the possibility.
  • It was confirmed earlier that the Mix Flip will ship outside of China.

Introduced earlier this month, the Mix Flip is Xiaomi’s first foray into the clamshell foldable space. If you were hoping this could be a worthy alternative to the Galaxy Z Flip 6, you’ll be disappointed to learn that it is not sold in the US. However, there is evidence to suggest that Xiaomi may be thinking about changing that.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), frequent tipster chunvn8888 claims that his friend has confirmed that the Mix Flip fully supports all US 5G bands. It appears support was added for these bands after a recent update.

Our own Mishaal Rahman responded to the post, adding that he hasn’t heard of any plans to offer the Mix Flip in the US. However, if this is true, the phone should work just fine in the US. Rahman also warns that if you do decide to import a Mix Flip, you should make sure to import a global model as certain features like Quick Share and Android Auto won’t work on the Chinese ROM.

It’s also important to note that the European version isn’t technically the global version either. The European model has a ROM that’s optimized for European standards.

When Xiaomi launched the Mix Flip, it was unknown if the device would be sold outside of China. But it was recently confirmed that the company plans on going international, with a release expected in at least five European countries. With Xiaomi adding support for all 5G bands used by US carriers, there’s a possibility the firm is at least considering a launch in the US.

This is what the iPhone 16’s color lineup could turn out to be

Android Authority / Aamir Siddiqui / 5 hours ago

  • Dummy units of the iPhone 16 have leaked, showing off the lineup across its possible colors.
  • According to these dummy units, the possible colors in this year’s lineup are more saturated than the pastel hues on the iPhone 15.
  • Apple is widely expected to launch the iPhone 16 in September 2024.

All eyes are set on what Google will do with the Pixel 9 series in the middle of August, but Apple fans are more interested in what Apple will do with the iPhone 16 launch, presumably in September 2024. We’ve seen plenty of dummy units and renders of what the iPhone 16 could look like. Thanks to a new leak, we have a better idea of the finalized design and the colors that could come with the iPhone 16, non-Pro models.

Leaker Sonny Dickson has shared dummy units for the iPhone 16. These dummy units align with what we have seen in his previous dummy unit leaks, but this set of dummy units seems more polished and ready for release, indicating that this could be the final design that Apple settles on.

Morning headies news

The Federal Government has announced that the planned nationwide hunger protests, scheduled for August 1-10, 2024, are no longer necessary, Punch newspaper reports.

Information Minister Mohammed Idris appealed to Nigerians, stating that the government is actively working to address concerns raised by frustrated citizens.

Idris explained that efforts are underway to ensure food availability, citing the distribution of rice to various centers nationwide, sold at ₦40,000. He noted that this is an initial measure, with more actions to follow, and significant investment in the agricultural sector is expected to decrease food prices.

The minister assured that President Bola Tinubu will address concerns raised by the youth, including education and transportation issues. He mentioned the student loan program, which ensures that no young person will be excluded from pursuing education. Additionally, the CNG initiative, once fully implemented, will resolve transportation issues.

Idris emphasized that the government is working assiduously to address the concerns of Nigerians, making strides to ensure food availability and affordability. He urged citizens to remain patient and assured that the government's efforts will yield positive results.

‘Call Notes’ could be a new Pixel 9 feature that records and transcribes phone calls

  • A rumor suggests a new feature called “Call Notes” could land with the Pixel 9 series in August.
  • The rumor suggests Call Notes would record and transcribe phone calls.
  • Theoretically, it wouldn’t be surprising also to see Gemini Nano create summaries of those transcriptions.

When Apple announced Apple Intelligence during WWDC24, it revealed a new AI-powered feature that would record, transcribe, and summarize your phone calls for you. If that made you jealous because something like that doesn’t currently exist within Android, we have good news: a very similar feature could land with the Pixel 9 series in August.

According to Dylan Roussel on X, Google could be working on an AI-powered feature called “Call Notes.” Roussel describes it as “call recording and transcription” but doesn’t mention summarization. However, given how similar the supposed functionality of Call Notes is to what’s already available in the Recorder app, we can only imagine that an AI-based summarization feature would also be included.

Downcycled: The story of Samsung’s failed deal with iFixit, as told by iFixit’s CEO

“Never take broken for an answer.” This motto, wrapped around a wrench, is emblazoned on Kyle Wiens’ red t-shirt. Wiens is the CEO of iFixit, one of the most popular destinations for everything you need when it comes to repairing smartphones, tablets, laptops, and more. The shirt — available from iFixit’s online store — is not just touting a clever slogan. For Wiens and everyone else at iFixit, it is a mantra, an attitude that defines everything it does. However, even Wiens himself probably didn’t anticipate how he would be forced to go against this mantra with a recently dissolved partnership with South Korea’s largest company, Samsung, which Wiens is here to discuss with Android Authority.

Wiens sips a Diet Coke and settles in as I start explaining the framework of our conversation. He interrupts me politely to get a big caveat out of the way related to confidentiality terms iFixit still has with Samsung. “We’re generally very open with the press, and I will tell you everything that I can,” he says. “As much as I would love to tell you everything, I’ll let you know when we’re going out of bounds with what I can say.”
